Even alone, we are together

It takes a lot of effort to stay motivated.

As you start to get into the rhythm of working from home amidst the reality of COVID19, you might start to see your motivation for work start to decrease. It takes a lot of effort to stay motivated. Perhaps more than you thought. It has for some taken them by surprise. They no longer have the same drive they had a mere one month ago.

The level of energy we have in the workplace and the level of motivation we have for the work we do is influenced greatly by our environment and indeed the people that work alongside us.  As we get ‘comfortable’ into a routine we didn’t expect and get ‘used’ to having our family or close friends and flatmates around us, we might start to lose the energy and motivation to give it our all.  And you might even be struggling to ‘Find Your Vibe’.

It is not unusual nor dare I say it something for us to worry about. As humans we are genuinely on the whole ‘good people’ who want to do what is right, who want to be good performers, great team players and show leadership. When it comes to uncertain times, this doesn’t change. Having an extra break to enjoy the sunshine, going for a walk at 4pm, or even turning off your video during a work call doesn’t equate to poor performance.

Nor does it signify employees that don’t care about the work they do. COVID19 and this period in life is challenging most people both in the way we live our lives and the way we do our work. Find Your Vibe once again by acknowledging the uncertainty and impact (conscious or unconscious) the current situation is having on your motivation and employee energy.

A simple technique that you might find useful is to identify answers to the following two questions and then share these with someone.

A.    What do you miss the most from your previous way of living?

B.     What do you miss the most from your previous way of working?

Identify the Top 5 for each of these questions. Rank them in order of what you miss the least (as N.5) to what you miss the most (as N.1).

Then share them with someone you value and see what you have in common.

The simple act of acknowledging and sharing your Top 5 gives you the ability to accept the new temporary reality.

Help you realise that even if you are not with your colleagues or attending your usual place of work, we are ALL experiencing this together.

There is comfort and power in this knowledge that will fuel your energy and increase your motivation to ‘re-start’ and keep going.

Live BETTER and Work BETTER because even alone we are Together.
